Hispanic Ministry (A Partnership with the Central Union Mission)

The Freedom Baptist Church is excited about our partnership with the Hispanic Ministry of the Central Union Mission. According to official Census figures in 2002 and the Mayor’s Office of Latino Affairs, of the District's 564,326 residents, 53,289 (9.4 percent) are Hispanic, although due to census undercount the figure is closer to 13 percent. Hispanics are the fastest growing ethnic minority in the District. Almost half (46.3 percent) of DC Hispanics live in Ward One neighborhoods.

The Hispanic Ministry is reaching out to the growing Hispanic population through Bible study, counseling, service support and English as a Second Language classes. As one of the leading churches in Ward One, it is the social and spiritual responsibility of the Freedom Baptist Church to meet the needs of our community.

While the classes held at the Freedom Baptist Church are open to all in need, it is predominately attended by Hispanic immigrants. Along with assisting individuals, the ministry is also working with Hispanic pastors in Washington, D.C. to reinforce current efforts and open new doors for ministry.

The Hispanic community also joins in the food, furniture, clothing, camp, back-to-school, Christmas bag, and many other programs and activities of the Freedom Baptist Church and the Central Union Mission. This ministry is under the leadership of Pastor Jorge DeCasanova.
