Our Pastor - Reverend Gregory Baldwin

Reverend Gregory Baldwin is the Senior Pastor of Freedom Baptist Church in Washington, DC. He is the second pastor in the forty year history of this congregation. For nearly four years, he served successfully as the Senior Pastor of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Orange, Virginia.

Reverend Baldwin has established a reputation for innovative initiatives that cultivate the partnership between the church and community, regardless of race and social class. Among these exemplary efforts are: the implementation of the SHARE Food Network Ministry, a partnership with Saint Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Washington, DC that distributes food as a way to build communities, encourage volunteer services, and strengthen families; and a partnership with the Central Union Mission in an effort to serve homeless families living in poverty, and children from at risk neighborhoods. The Hispanic Ministry, under the leadership of the Central Union Mission, is our newest ministry. It utilizes our facility to reach out to the growing Hispanic population through Bible study, counseling, service support and English as a Second Language classes.

He has spent the last decade as an educator for the Alexandria City Public Schools. For several years, he taught at the Richmond Virginia Seminary. He has served as Co-Chair of the Christian Education Committee of the Baptist General Convention of Virginia, and was a guest lecturer at the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia. He has appeared on ABC 7 News, BET (Black Entertainment Television) Nightly News, and is a frequent guest on The Don Kroah Show (WAVA 105.1 FM).

Reverend Baldwin has served as the guest preacher for numerous churches, conferences, and conventions, including the Baptist General Convention of Virginia, Northern Virginia Baptist Ministers’ Conferences, Wayland Blue Ridge Baptist Association, and the Missionary Baptist Ministers’ Conference of Washington, DC and Vicinity.

His educational attainments include a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, Virginia State University; Master of Education Degree, George Mason University; Master of Theology Degree, Andersonville Theological Seminary; and a Doctor of Theology Degree, Andersonville Theological Seminary. He is the recipient of numerous awards including a multiple year honoree of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, the Virginia Education Association’s Whole Village Award, Alexandria Chamber of Commerce’s Excellence in Education Award, City of Alexandria Community Service Award, Phi Theta Kappa, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., (Alpha Phi Chapter) Brother of the Year Award. Due to his commitment to serving others, the United States Congress honored him with the Congressional Award.

He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry by Dr. L.B. Jones, Sr. at the Springfield Baptist Church in Washington, DC, under the auspices of the Missionary Baptist Ministers’ Conference of Washington, DC and Vicinity.
